52 Week Challenge – Week 30

This week’s challenge is Gates, again I am cheating a touch…..well a lot, I definitely did NOT take this image this week. This was from Alowyn Gardens………gorgeous gardens in the Yarra Valley. It’s not the only gate shot I have, but I really liked the timber against the greenery. I will get back on track with this challenge, it’s just so difficult at the moment.

One Four Challenge – July

I know July hasn’t even finished yet and the One Four Challenge is still currently on Flickr, but I thought I would share the wondrous transformation of this image the first I ran through Nik Viveza…….I love the high key softness, undersaturated colours

Topaz Impression 2 – Painterly

Topaz Impressions 2 – Impasto Finger Paint

Nik Analog – Antique Camera effects

Now this final image I have used so many different layers, filters, plug ins, I honestly cannot remember where one started and the other finished……I love the soft pencil like effect which was mostly Topaz Adjust pencil effects (I think), then I hand painted (with a Wacom Tablet) the highlights and shadows on her body and the bed and curtains. I think the face requires a little more work before I am done, perhaps a little more detail to bring out her features; but so far I am thrilled with the rest of it.

Have you ever taken a picture, and then played with it, to see how many different variation, styles, looks, moods and feel you can create? Til next time, happy snapping…

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Stairs, Steps and Ladders

Cee’s Fun Foto challenge this week is steps, stairs or ladders. I had actually just taken these two photos for my Still Life, and I have used my new studio ladder. I know most people shooting still life use really cool, old rustic ladders……I don’t own one, so instead decided to use the new one I bought. Granted, I am usually standing on it to shoot or reach top shelves, not usually something I use as a prop………but hey why not, not everything has to be old does it?

I love this ladder, it’s the only one I feel safe on, it’s strong, sturdy, has really wide treads and hand rails to stabilize me getting up and down; I am NOT very good with any heights and a bit of a clutz!

Cee’s Compose Yourself Challenge # 23 – Black and White

Now we are getting to something I can really sink my teeth into with Cee’s CYC, I adore using B&W in my images, doesn’t mean I always do, but I still love a good B&W. I love how a great contrast between dark and light can make an image pop, making skin almost seem to glow

Lots of colour can be so distracting, but once removed the details seem to jump out at youDSC_7247

I love to mix contrasts of soft glowing skin and high textured objects like this bear, in colour the details would get lostDSC_5413-Edit

I love this image, the shadow and light, the texture of the wings and softness of the skin, I have added a slight rose tone to this image, but the original colour and B&W are below, the colour looses definition and seems almost drab SOOC.DSC_1501-Edit-Edit-Edit24098609642_6f9b449868_z

Contrast between light and dark, have to be careful not to loose details, especially ijn the shadowsDSC_2445

High Key is another element I use, making the highlights push into nothing for a soft dreaming feel23579023524_f126b0ff88_z

High Key, mixed with some deep shadows, gives a wonderful mixed element on this imageDSC_1978

In comparison this is a Low Key edit, with deep, dark shadows and lots of added grain, still had a lot of texture with the hay, but I didn’t want to place as much emphasis on the hay; just the faces. Gives an old world cinematic feel to it, see colour version below.

I know I have probably broached a few processing elements from next week, but then again maybe not? Til next week, happy snapping…

Have camera…..will travel

Someone said to me today that my Travel Page is so well organised and a treasure trove of places and things to do, especially around my home State. Little did they know it haven’t updated it for awhile, so now I have.

I was just saying I wish I could spend more time travelling, but when I look at this list and see WHERE I have been in the last 2 years……….I am astounded. OK, so not all the trips are long or far or even overseas, but we have done a lot of exploring, especially in the warmer months. I love our day trips when we just pick a location and go exploring, but I have been so busy with studio work lately we have not had much time……….soon I must get out again soon!

Actually looking at the that list has me craving some adventure again………..where to Next?

Share Your World – Week 30

Cee’s Share Your World – Week 30, time for a little more sharing. I know I have been complaining about how busy I have been, but I just felt I needed a break and this week’s SYW looks like fun!

Do you prefer a bath or shower?
I definitely prefer a shower during the week, much quicker to run and I am generally in and out. We have a rather large bathtub and it takes a really long time to fill, so it’s no good in the morning when I’m trying to get ready for work. I do love a good hot soak when time allows. Mind you I frequently skip the bathtub for the hot tub! I have a lovely big jacuzzi spa on the back deck and even in winter it is enclosed and we have heaters! Heaven you can share with a friend.

If you had an unlimited shopping spree at only one store, which one would you choose? Why? Not that hard really, camera store lol. But a big one that sells studio stuff as well, backdrops, lights, strobes, as well as cameras and lenses. Oh What fun I could have, not that I really need anything, but it would be fun. I still have window shopping I guess.

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what age would that be? Not that hard either……….35 ~ 40. I loved being that age, I was fit and healthy, my children were old enough to do most things themselves and did not need babysitters as much. I didn’t have the health issues I have now. I wish I could have lifestyle I now have when I was really able to enjoy it. I now have more time and financial freedom than back then, but it’s getting harder and harder to get over trips out that are physically active. No long bush hikes, no mountain climbing.

List at least five movies that cheer you up. Now that I’ve depressed myself (well, not really), 5 movies……..I love; The Mummy, Rat Race, 10 Things I hate about you, Star Wars (the early one), Star Gate (any of them), Something’s Gotta Give, Under a Tuscan Sun, Shrek…….oops too many, too bad 🙂 . There are so many great movies.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I was offered an amazing opportunity, which I still have to keep secret, it’s driving me crazy as I want to shout from the roof tops, I am just so excited! All my hard work, my patience, my creativeness and my study have brought me to this opportunity, which I hope will open many more doors.

The week coming up……..more hard work, but of the creative kind, I also have a Still Life workshop I am running on Saturday, they are always so much fun. I am hoping I can take off for a day out on Sunday, just me and Hubby, we have not been anywhere in so long. Somewhere pretty just to shoot, no reason than to just be.

Share you world for this week….
