Welcome to the last day of 2017! As you read this I am probably fighting my way through airport traffic and trying to find the rental car desk; Happy Holidays!
I recently acquired a vintage chair, according to the guy in the antique store it was 120 years old and made of mahogany, found in a deceased estate. The fabric is still quite good, as is the stuffing (Horsehair I believe). The truth is, as much as that is all quite interesting, I did not really mind the history, it was the chair. So many of my photos are fairy-tale and whimsically inspired, the chairs in my studio are far too modern, even if modern country…I wanted something that looked the part and I feel this one does.
So while I was setting up for a photo shoot, the last studio shoot for the year, I spent 5 minutes with my chair and some fresh flowers.
If you would like to join in the RegularRandom challenge, here are the rules:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!
- tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to this post or even Desley’s post.

P.S. I am not sure if Desley is doing a Regular Random, as she has been enjoying some much-needed rest and relaxation with her family in QLD, I myself just left Melbourne this morning to spend a week with my Daughter in Brisbane.
The back of the chair is fascinating. Ha! I can just picture you with the salesman, Julz–“Yeah, buddy. The history’s good. Here’s my money. Good-bye.” I think all antiques dealers feel compelled you all they know about a particular piece. I’m looking for more photos of this wonderful find.
