Just 1 hour from Melbourne (40 minutes from us), nestled on the gentle slopes of Yarra Valley is Warratina Lavender Farm. Another wonderful piece of the Yarra Valley I have been meaning to visit, but perhaps earlier in the flowering season would have been better, but there were still plenty of blooms. According to their website, they harvest in January, but by late December almost all harvested already. It is smaller than anticipated, but it is only $2.00 entry fee, there are two main fields of lavender as well as some pretty gardens, native bushland, and of course the drying rooms and the tea house. We had a lovely latte and some yummy lavender scones.
We got to chat to some of the harvesters, one guy said he had been stung three times already that morning by the furiously busy bees, they were EVERYWHERE, it was a minor miracle I did not get stung, but I did get a few good shots; lots of bees to practice on 😛
