Last week’s Regular Random I featured some photos I took of a long-stemmed red rose, just one from the bunch my Hubby gave me for Valentines Day. Last weeks were soft and light and bright, this week some darker and moody and yes – so, so me! They are still on the same table and wooden spool, I replaced the window backlight with a dark blackboard.
Again shot with the 50mm Prime and the close-ups with my 16mm extension tubes. ISO500, F/1.8, 1/400sec. – don’t you just love the blur? Dreamy. By moving the board behind me and blocking or allowing some light in, it changed the exposure and mood, as well as changing the exposure in camera from 1-2 stops to really make the exposure quite dark.
Fancy joining the RegularRandom brigade?! Jump on board. Here’s how:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!
- tag your post #regularrandom and pingback to this post or to Desley’s page
~ Julz, xo
P.S. Next week I go even darker!
P.P.S. Have you checked out Desley’s 7 minutes with a feather post yet? Oh, My how divine.
Fabulous Julz. I love adding black but don’t do it very often. Beautiful.

I thought your earlier post on this rose was exquisite but this one too just draws you in. Red is my favourite colour, loving the dark richness of it.

Thank you….the rose is exquisite and I really wanted to bring that out. I am currently drying them. Next week I go even darker and richer in tones…this is a 3 part series 😁

I guessed that when you said darker at the end of your post and ‘fifty shades of red- darker’ popped into my head. 😀I’m sure the subject is good but your photography skills are outstanding. I look forward to all your posts.
