A Day with Desley…

Desley and I had so much fun the other week, we wanted to catch up again soon, real soon. So over Easter, we planned to spend an afternoon with our cameras, some interesting subjects and collaborate on my Dapper Rabbit project, which is now slowly starting to come together. Two years of blood, sweat and tears (usually from laughter) all coming together. But, I digress…

So it was another wonderful Melbourne day, but considerably cooler than it had been of late, so with the patio doors open we enjoyed the sunshine and cool breezes and played with some more Skittles…yes more Skittles!

Under Glass…

I am sure you have seen those really cool shots of close up water beads magnifying Skittles, M&Ms or Jellybeans under glass? We attempted it, the problem was trying to make the water bead up properly. We really needed something that repels water, but nothing was on hand and it was a public holiday. Still, I got some interesting shots.

The Melt…

So assuming you have seen my previous post where we attempted to melt Skittles in a dish? We learned a lot from that shoot and wanted another try. Desley’s balcony can get a lot of sun around the middle of the day, so shadows were a bit of a problem, Desley only had a high sided white bowl, and we had to make sure everything was level. Also, we used warm tap water instead of boiling water. It slows down the process considerably and stops all the colours blending together too quickly. We also had several bags of Skittles this time, not one little box πŸ™‚ We tried a star first…which was not the most exciting. We doubled up on colours and stuck with circles. Generally playing around…we had all those Skittles to use.

Such a lovely lunch (Dumplings and savoury pancakes – the best) and such a lovely day, catching up, staging, shooting, unfortunately, it did not end well. Desley hurt her shoulder (the good one), and then the poor thing locked herself out of her apartment and had to call a locksmith. I felt so bad, poor thing. I hope her shoulder feels better soon.

PS. We also shot with Cupcakes, our Planners and some pretty, pretty flowers, which I will feature in another post.
