Share Your World – 16th October 2018

Welcome to Share Your World for the week of October 15th!   This week’s questions include some food, some whimsy, something opinion based and one just because.

What’s the biggest screw up in the kitchen that you were responsible for?

Many, many years ago, when I had first started ‘seeing’ Moth, I invited him to come over for dinner with my parents. I had bought at the Saturday morning meat markets (no such thing these days) a superb cut of beef for roasting – or so I thought. I cooked and cooked it, but it was also slightly red, even though the juices ran clear? Strange but I served it anyway, my Mother took a bite and burst out laughing and said she thought she knew what happened, I had actually purchased corned beef or silverside, very salty meet that should have been boiled and not roasted! It was SO SALTY! OMG, I could have died of embarrassment. Turns out Dad and Moth actually rather liked the salty concoction, I think they had second helpings even! Mum took the leftover home and cooked it properly, apparently roasting it beforehand REALLY brings out the flavour. I have NEVER lived that one down.

What, in your opinion, makes people believe absurd conspiracy theories?

Ignorance mostly, although these days confusion can often replace ignorance. There is a lot of misinformation and miscommunication available online, which is difficult to decide what is true and false. I know I have been puzzled a few times by incidents I was sure was a hoax, but turned out it wasn’t and vice versa. Always check your facts people.

In 40 years what will people be nostalgic for?

Holding and carrying around a cellphone? Mine seems to be permanently glued to me, in my hand, my pocket on my desk, bedside table, it is always there, in 40 years it will probably be an implant or something. I could be wrong, it could be snow, cooler temperatures, gentle breezes and sunshine that does not scorch you to death the moment you step outside.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Generally speaking to me a sandwich with a filling of some sort between two pieces of bread, a hot dog is an entirely different thing (well in Australia anyway). We have a plain hot dog in a special hot dog bun (usually loaded with sugar) with tomato sauce or sometimes American mustard, then there are the loaded hotdogs; with fried onions, bacon and cheese with mustard and tomato sauce. Quite yummy, but not exactly healthy.

What wonderful thing happened to you this week that you’d like to share?  It can be a gratitude moment or something that just made you feel very happy at the time or made you laugh.

Nothing really, in particular, this week, I had a great client session on Friday and then another on Saturday with a new client. I spent some time just existing, sitting in the sun in the backyard, I finally have some sunshine on a regular basis to enjoy – perhaps that is what I am grateful for and happy about, warmer weather is finally here and I am loving it, so over the cold weather.

Jellyfish art installation hanging in a tree, with the sunset behind.

I hope you have an amazing week, I am taking three days off and I will do whatever I please – what fun!
