Share Your World – 23rd October 2018

QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK:

Name two books that have influenced you and share how.  (Credit for this question goes to Teresa of The Haunted Wordsmith.   She asked for TEN books, in her challenge, so the SYW folks got off a bit easy..)

Lord of the Rings (well that is 9 books so close), it introduced me to fantasy storytelling, let my imagination take flight, especially the start of the LOTR, not so much the epic battles and death scenes, but the friendship, the drama and hobbits! I visited Hobbiton in NZ a few years back and I hope to visit there again next year.  [See post here]. In extension to that, I guess the Hobbit for much the same reason.

Then there is Narnia Chronicles: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, a sense of adventure and a touch of magic, a sense of wonder and imagination.

Terry Brooks – Shannara, David Edding’s The Belgariad and Mallorean series. All of these books formed my early adulthood, as much as the other formed my childhood. Without them, I do not think I would be doing what I do now. I was not brought up on magic and wonder and fantasy as such, role-playing and imagination, sure but not knights and dragons and mystical elements.

I guess the last is Harry Potter, Harry brought the same sense of magic and wonder to my children and for that, I am eternally grateful. One daughter likes LOTR and Shannara as well, but not so much the other.

In your opinion, where is the line between art and not art?  Does there really need to be a distinction? One man’s art is another man’s garbage, right? I feel it needs to have some human interaction to have a soul, but I guess even these days that is slowly changing as well. I know what I like and what I don’t like, I guess we will leave it at that?

Trivia for Halloween:   What item is banned only during Halloween from 12am October 31st to 12pm November 1st in Hollywood California?   (I know the answer, but I do not have any idea WHY)..c’mon…hazard a guess!

I Googled this, and yes that would be cheating, but I also Googled the why, so does that let me off? Silly String is the answer. It is difficult to remove and the council was sick of the enormous cleanup bill from previous years, as well as fights it caused and the fact that it is dangerous if consumed, add to that it is highly flammable!

What is something that really annoys you but doesn’t bother most people? Sadly lots of things annoy me, but they probably annoy other people too. I think I am getting old and cranky, more things annoy me these days. Stupidity is one, people who just don’t think before they do something. People who dillydally and take too long to do something an average person can do in half the time. Waiting in queues, I really hate wasting my time, especially for things I don’t really want to do anyway.

Instead of our usual gratitude question, I’m posing this one for this week:

What or who in your life brings you the most joy?

Of course, I could say, my family, my children & pets, but I will go one step further and it is just as obvious. Photography and Digital Art, I love the places it has taken me, the people I meet, the things I have seen. Without my camera, I would not be a part of any of that.

Whatever you get up to this week, I hope is fun and enjoyable…and a Happy Samhain to you all.
