Regular Random – Honeybees

I recently bought myself a new macro lens for the Sony, I borrowed one off a friend to try and really liked it a lot, so with some birthday money I bought my own. I really was missing my big Tamron for macro, but this is much smaller, lighter and exceptional quality.

While visiting one of Melbourne’s amazing gardens this Spring I was happily playing around with my new lens and spotted some busy bees, could not resist. Now bees can sometimes be difficult as they can move quite quickly and I often struggle to get them properly in focus, as it was quite bright I could use a higher shutter speed and I lowered my F/stop, allowing me to get more in focus. A tripod can help to steady, but when the bees are moving so fast not really feasible.

Still, I was more than happy with these four shots, and a fun 5 minutes indeed while waiting in line for a coffee 🙂

Would you like to join in the RegularRandom crew? Here’s how:

  • choose a subject or a scene
  • spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
  • try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
  • have fun!
  • tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to this post or check out Desley’s post, a yummy cake this week

Looking forward to seeing your shots.
