I know it’s December and I have already had two Christmas luncheon/celebrations, but I still am just not feeling it. Does anyone else find that? I used to get so excited for Christmas, with the kids getting so excited and all the fun festivities, decorating the house, wrapping presents. Then, of course, was Christmas Holidays (from work) and my yearly Christmas bonus! ALWAYS something to get excited about…now the only thing that remains is my holidays, still looking forward to those. But…Christmas just doesn’t sparkle quite like it used to and it seems to take me longer and longer every year to get into the spirit of it. Still, that’s my rant for today 🙂
Now let’s get into Melanie’s SYW Questions:
What’s your remedy for the Holiday blues? How about Pre or Post-Holiday Blues? I am OK during the holidays, it seems to the leading up, but mostly the returning to work. The lead-up has the expectation of time off and relaxing and fun and such to think and dream about, so it’s not so bad…it’s the coming back I dread.
Your favourite beverage (if it differs) during the holiday season? If it doesn’t differ, just answer the ‘what’s your favourite beverage” part. Christmas and New Year’s I will have a glass of champagne (with OJ), I never drink it any other time of the year, weird right? Normally I drink white wine (I have finally found one with no milk or egg in the production) or I am a RUM gal! mmmmm quite like rum and coke or soda & lime.
This one has been asked before, but what’s your take on pumpkin spice? I still have no idea…I really must google that
Is there is a person or god connected with your holiday? I am in no way religious, so for me, it’s Santa, Ole Saint Nick, whatever you want to call the man in the red suit. I mean I know he is not really real, but he is fun. I believe somewhere, at some time he did exist as a real person. I mean there are people out there now who do exactly that, make and give toys to local children on Christmas eve…just not globally. If you had just one person in each town or village who did just that…it could be construed as one person.
Christmas has become so commercial, I just prefer no presents and to share some quality time with family and friends, a meal a few drinks and loads of laughter.
Gratitude: Share a song that you enjoy during this Winter season
For some reason, Jingle Bell Rock from Mean Girls (The movie) always comes to mind.
of course the classic, Summer Wonderland (Sure it’s from New Zealand, but it still applies here too) by Ronan.
Then there are the Classics…It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas, White Christmas, All I want for Christmas is you, Have yourself a merry little Christmas and Silent Night. Any of these and I just can’t help but sing along. Whether it’s Bing Crosby (I grew up on those) or Michael Buble…I adore the crooners at Christmas.
What about you? What is your favourite Christmas Carol?
~ Julz
Thanks Julz for Sharing Your Holiday World!! 🙂 The ‘blues’ question could mean pre, during or post – some of us (well me) have a medical condition (Seasonal Affective Disorder) so it’s all three for me. I liked your answer very much, that situation applies to so many and your pragmatic way to deal with it is wonderful!
“Pumpkin Spice” is something that America (anyway) has gone crazy over. Vendors and merchants put it in everything (I even saw “pumpkin spice’ Cheerios FFS. And it’s in scented candles, on pinecones and all sorts of other scent usages. I think it stinks and I hate the taste, but surprisingly a lot seem to enjoy it. I don’t know what’s in it either…it’s certainly not like pumpkin PIE spice (IMHO) or Apple Pie Spice…it’s nastier smelling than that. Does that help any?
And thanks for the great playlist of wonderful seasonal songs! Sounds like you know your music! 😀
