It is truly difficult to put into words the thoughts behind this piece. Time runs out for the Penitent Man, which forms part of my lonely man series. I was capturing remorse and repentance. I did not want to focus on the religious context, but the Penitent Man can be contrite for other non-religious reasons. Again my symbolism with the pocket watch and the apple and key. Rain clouds and closed in grey walls add to his misery. Does he have the time, does he have the wisdom, does he have the key to his salvation?

Are we all doomed to repeat the same mistakes again and again? In a world currently going crazy over CV, it will not be a WWIII we need to worry about with bombs and terrorism, it’s germ warfare and fighting in the streets and supermarkets aisles over food and toilet paper.
