I survived Covid, it took about a month to feel ‘normal’ again. But there are still lingering side effects. We went away for a few days (perhaps you’ve seen the posts?) and then had a quiet Easter and then ANZAC Day at Home. Actually, we pretty much ignore them. I am tired of people trying to make other people who don’t really celebrate ‘these’ events as they should be, made to feel guilty. I am a white woman in Australia…I personally have done nothing wrong, that I can see. But THAT is a rant for another day.
I also kind of missed Earth Day here in Australia…not that anyone really did anything. I work mostly with and for Americans, so I mentally made a note on ‘their’ Earth Day…the fact is we should be trying to make every day an Earth Day really, shouldn’t we?
Anyway…onto this week’s SYW questions –
QUESTIONS:
In your opinion, how are we affecting our planet? Well, big business and government are stuffing so many things up. we vote in many of our governments, so I guess ultimately ‘we’ in general are to blame. We have an election coming up and neither major party offer any real solutions to help the state of the environment at all. It’s frustrating.
What solutions would you offer to stem the multiple problems we face vis a vis the destruction of our planet home? I guess that’s the problem isn’t it, what is the solution? Electric cars? we use coal to make electricity here, so more electricity means more coal use. We need more wind, solar and hydro to be used. Stop polluting the atmosphere. Better recycling. I try and recycle as much as I can, but then everything just gets placed in dumps. You have to ask why bother?
Do you think it’s already too late and we could just do exactly as we’re doing now and things would turn out the very same? It’s not too late (I hope) but they need to start listening to the scientists – NOW. I know money is tied up in all of it, but if there is no planet there will be no money then either.
Do you participate in things like “Arbor Day” (a U.S. Holiday dedicated to planting new trees) or Earth Day or Earth Month? Nothing as such. I did not use the car. I spent time in the garden enjoying it and the sunshine. There is nothing really being done around here that I heard of…never really is.
Is any of it important in the ‘Big Picture’? I think the Environment is probably our most important asset, and I understand that there is no easy fix, but it seems like not as much is being done, that could be done.
GRATITUDE:
What can you personally do to participate in the “Clean Earth” movement? I drive as little as possible. I try to use renewable energy as much as possible. I recycle where ever I can, I have planted native bushes and small trees. I have bird and insect friendly plants. I try to use nature-friendly cleaning products. Not sure how much more I can do?
It’s all a little frustrating, to be honest. I know if everyone on the planet did their little bit, the planet would be so much better off. But when so many don’t the ones who do, get frustrated. I know there are people who do more, but I like to live comfortably in a house, I like to travel and I really can’t be bothered growing my own fruit and vegetables (call me lazy).
Here are just a few photos from our trip to South Australia, just in case you missed the posts.

I hope you all have a safe and happy week…

Thank you Julz for Sharing Your World! Is that an albino ‘roo? Amazing photography! The artists that painted on the water tanks or smoke stacks have quite a gift too – so beautiful! I hope I didn’t imply that I judged if someone doesn’t participate or celebrate in American type movements or holidays and such. If I did imply that, my apologies. I forget to think globally, which is at once a buzz phrase (IMO) and something that everyone should consider doing. We’re all involved in the planet issue, because once we destroy it, there’s not another just sitting there for use. But I don’t wish to say that anyone HAS to believe like I do. I’m glad you had joy in your recent trip, it is refreshing to get away. And I’m glad you’ve gotten over COVID. So scary! Have a marvelous week! 🙂

No you never implied anything. It’d crap down here going on. We can’t celebrate or not celebrate without being ridiculed as a white woman….crazy
