Share Your World – 21st June, 2017

I am running a bit behind, been a very busy week, but here are my responses to Cee’s Share Your World questions for this week;

What is something that people are obsessed with but you just don’t get the point of? Pokemon Go, although I think it has more or less died out now, hasn’t it? I just could not understand the point. Also those Fidget Spinner things, no idea? Maybe I am getting too old? lol

What quirky things do people do where you are from? Are you kidding? I’m Australian, everything we do is QUIRKY!

What are some things you wish you could unlearn? Holding a Grudge! I am very good at it, wish I could unlearn that sometimes. But everything in live you learn takes you from one point to another, if there was something removed from that equation, you may end up somewhere entirely different from where you are now.

Who is someone that you miss having in your life? I try not to dwell on my past, if people are no longer in my life (for whatever reason), I have made peace with that. My youngest daughter is shortly about to move interstate, I know I will miss seeing her everyday.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Pixel Sisters Studio being launched by myself and Desley Jane, that is very exciting we had out launch last weekend and set up our first workshop. We are about to announce our second workshop, this week.

I also ran a very successful and booked Still Life workshop in my home Studio last weekend, lots of fun.

I am working with another new model this weekend, someone entirely new and completely different from ANYTHING I have done up until now. Well that’s about it for now, I will leave you with some yummy cupcakes from Saurday’s workshop…

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Teddy Bears, Dolls, Toys

Cee’s Fun Foto challenge this week is Teddy Bears, Dolls and Toys – I don’t really have very many of any of these in the traditional sense and they are all in the studio, the little teddies and one big one are for little kids photoshoots, as is Hoggle the Hedgehog puppet, I have a bunch of Halloween stuff we use for photos and Halloween…

My Models are my toys, I know shocking isn’t it? That is not being mean, just honest think of it dress up dolls for adults. Hey! My models love it too, they get to dress up and I get to put them in different scenes and poses, pick different outfits and accessories and stuff. So my models are my main toys lol

Til next time, have fun and happy snapping…

Mondays Musings…

Go big or Go home..isn’t that what they say? So I jumped, sometimes you have to make a leap of faith that all your training, your planning and sheer determination will make an endeavor pay off; sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. This weekend marked the launch of Pixel Sisters Studio, I wrote about this yesterday. We also had out Instagram, Website and Facebook all went live as well. Desley and I have been very busy behind the scenes, planning and arranging our very first workshop, which is already starting to fill up, so very exciting.

I ran another of my own smaller workshops from the home studio on Saturday, Light and bright, cakes and candies; I dubbed it the Sweet Tooth Workshop. People commented it was the tastiest workshop they have ever done…lets hope I have not set a dangerous precedent 🙂

Sunday was the last of the planning and editing I had left to do and just pottering around, even a bit of a tidy up in the studio.

Oh and did I mention I had another two images published in Living the Photo Artistic Life magazine (page 8) last week, yay me!

I am hoping to work with another new model next weekend and getting everything arranged for the next Pixel Sisters Workshop.

I hope you all have a fabulous week ahead, safe travels and happy snapping…

Introducing – Pixel Sisters Studio

I have been hinting at something big being afoot again lately and now I can finally let you in it…..Drum Roll please;

Pixel Sisters

Desley (Desley Jane Pictures – https://musingsofafrequentflyingscientist.com/) and I have started a new business venture together, creating fun photography workshops for Melbourne based photographers. They say you should go big or go home, right? So we have been extremely busy of late, we have a brand new website – Pixelsistersstudio.com, a Facebook page and an Instagram Account. We are moving all this to a large professional photography studio in Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs and the first workshop is set for 29th July, this has been a huge undertaking and a big adventure for both of us. Until then I am still running a couple of small workshops in my home studio, but it’s time to go big!

FF290717

Our first Workshop is a Floral Fantasy Still Life and Macro, (honestly did you really expect anything else from us two?), but we are planning more workshops with varied themes, including; Desley’s Planner stuff and my Conceptual Portraiture, with lots of other fun stuff thrown in too. We will be catering to all levels of photographer, with an aim to getting beginners off auto and exposing seasoned photographers to different genres.

So if you are in Melbourne, check out what we have on offer and perhaps join us, if you live elsewhere in the world, follow us on Facebook and Instagram, as we will be posting lots of fabulous images and BTS stuff as well.

Share Your World – 13th June, 2017

It has been a huge weekend on so many levels, so I will try and keep this brief today, but I didn’t want to miss Cee’s Share Your World. I feel like I am juggling a lot lately and it is only going to get busier…but more on that later

What do you do when you’re not working? If you are retired, what do you that is not part of your regular daytime routine? I do have a 9-5 job, but when I am not there I am working, either shooting, creating, Still Life or product photography in the Studio, working on new concepts, doing more training (whether pulling apart a fabulous piece of art to see how it’s done, YouTube videos etc), or creating art. I rarely stop, but when I do it will be to spend time with family and friends, or to travel. Occasionally, just occasionally I might veg on the couch with a book or a movie.

What would you do if you won the lottery? Quit my 9-5 and do all of the above full time, really ramp it up 😛

What makes you laugh the most? So many things, I laugh all the time, usually at myself

What is your biggest pet peeve with modern technology? When it doesn’t work………seriously do not get me started on this, that and people on their phones while trying to order coffee, food etc……….so rude.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m grateful I survived the weekend, I am still tired, but excited with so many possibilities. There has been so much going on behind the scenes, that I still can’t tell you yet, but soon, very soon. I spent a wonderful day with Desley on Saturday with two wonderful models;  Jess and Mel. Introducing Desley to my world of Studio Concept shoots………oh dear I think I have her hooked……..seriously we had such fun, just wait til you see her pics too; gorgeous!

Saturday night I spent with friends in an abandoned warehouse for some more Light Painting action, then up again Sunday for another Photo Shoot. Monday I spent all day working on images and collaborating on new endeavours, can’t wait.

DSC_2700-Edit

This week, wow I have so much editing to do, more planning for upcoming projects, as well as another Workshop on Saturday to arrange and then run…see? I never stop 🙂

Well that’s it from me, til next time have a great week…

Monday’s Musings…

As Victoria (Australia) celebrates the Queen’s Birthday (funnily enough not our current Queen, but one from our past – figure that, weird Commonwealth traditions) we have a public holiday today, so I am probably off hunting toadstools and mushroom (I kids you not), this is a scheduled post. Perhaps I am still snug in my bed; it has been a huge weekend after all.

Jess & Mel – Forest Fairies

So Saturday, was a super huge massive day, Jess and Mel came at 10am for 3 hours of Hair and Makeup with the talented Micaela (from the Alice shoot), and I was joined in the studio by Desley (the not so frequently flying scientist 😛 ) for a Boho Forest fairies studio shoot, we also shot a nearby park. Lots of fun, laughter and hi-jinks, a few oops moments (I’ll explain that one later) and a brilliant day with some amazing shots, I am still to edit them all. I then literally kicked them all out, to head off to the next shoot – Light Painting! In a new old abandoned building, not much time for exploring before set up, but it was a fun night, with a fun group of people.

DSC_2541

Then an early wake up to clean up the studio after the dump and run, from the day before, as I had yet another model shoot, another lovely lady, Ally Xu;

DSC_2700-Edit

Such a wonderful and creative shoot……but as per usual, more on that later.

I hope you have an amazing week, I have so much editing to do from three very different photos shoots, plus getting ready for another workshop on the weekend.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Order

I used to hate chaos and demanded complete order and control, and cleanliness, and then I had children! Things might have seemed messy to some, but there was still an order to it. Once I had kids, my reins slackened a little (for my own sanity) and now I actually find it all quite funny……….what was I worried about, a little bit of mess never hurt anyone. My motto these days is… “I would rather be out shooting!”

But for those who still crave a bit of order, here are some shots for this Week’s Photo Challenge;

Have a wonderful day…….in order or chaos…

Share your World – 6th June, 2017

Cee’s Share Your world for this week

What’s your strongest sense?

I guess it has to be sight, although I wear glasses, especially on the computer. My hearing is not so good, my tastebuds are my own worst enemy (love food and tastebuds are functioning perfectly 😛 ). My sense of touch is still fine, possibly more than fine…..such fine details in most of my work, although I am finding my fingers ache these days…perhaps a touch of arthritis? My Sixth sense is not as strong as it was…..either that or I don’t worry as much about things these days. I change what I can and the rest I just have to deal with.

Which of Snow White’s 7 dwarfs describes you best? (Doc, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey) Happy, but Bashful? I am generally a happy person, but shy around people or situations I am not familiar.

If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what age would that be? I guess I would have to say now, I love my current life, I wish I have the body of a 20 year old with what I know now, but I never had the wisdom to enjoy it back then. I thought I was, but the party girl did not know what she was missing out on!

List of Jobs You Think You Might Enjoy: Even if you aren’t thinking about a career change, it can be fun to think of other jobs you might enjoy.  [Remember:  This is SYW where even your dreams can become reality.] Archaeologist, think Indiana Jones! An explorer, even though I really am a big scaredy cat most of the time lol

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I have so much in my life to be grateful for, every day, it often seems a little trivial to focus on small details; but it’s the small details which really make life more interesting, isn’t it? I had such a great week last week, got lots of exposure for my art on Social Media, print and competitions, it really was a week of celebrations; big and small. I got to meet and work with a new model, and it was wonderful. I get so nervous working with new people, I know it sounds silly, but that’s just the way it is. I tend to work with the same people, because it is more comfortable. Sure I might reach outside my comfort zone, artistically, but with people I know and trust. So working with someone new on a current series is fraught with anxiety, I know nothing bad can really happen, at worst a horrible picture and waste of my time. But it was a great afternoon and some wonderful images were taken.

I have such a busy weekend coming up, multiple photo shoots, including another shoot with Mel and Jess, Light Painting……and another new model!

Here is hoping you all have a wonderful week…

Celebrations…

Wow another really big week for me, opening of my third exhibit this week, while my 2nd one draws to a close; and it’s only June!

I won 6th place overall in the Photography Category for Light, Space and Time ‘Animal’ competition, with my Kestrel, plus also got an Honorary Mention for my Barn Owl.

This is following on from my two Special Merits I also received in the Figure Competition recently.

I have recently won 9 Gold Awards on Foto Arte II, for two images and won banner pics as well, I will also be in July issue of Fine Eye Magazine.

DSC_1669-Edit

I was also just recently had a few pics in Artists Down Under Magazine, that’s their third issue now and each one just gets better and better. Check it out it’s free online.

There is also more exciting things happening, but can’t spill the beans on them; just yet! Oh My this year is such a whirlwind, I’m finding it difficult to catch my breath. But then if I did, this snowball might stall………..push, push, push. All these exhibitions, awards and prizes are due to a LOT of hard work, so yay me!

Monday’s Musings

Wow Winter is really officially here, it’s been frosty in the mornings and nights are FRESH! But that doesn’t stop me, we had another busy weekend; I spent Saturday finishing up some new YouTube videos, as well as some videos for other projects, plus really working on some new Australian Animal pieces

Julie Powell_Helmeted Honeyeater-1

I won a few FB Awards and banner pics with this image………..so cool, very Spring for a cold, wet and windy Winter’s day.

I then had a shoot with a new Model, I think we clicked and worked together very well, so I am sure you will see lots more with her, this is Nikki…

DSC_1957-Edit

I actually had two shoots on Sunday and a mini Still Life shoot as well, so now I have lots of editing to do 🙂

My Exhibit at Brunswick Street Gallery finished on Friday, but my other exhibit at Scugnizzo is still going.

Not much else to say….I hope you all have a fabulous week.
