Share Your World – Week 1, 2017

I was reading through Emilio’s SYW and I swear he plucked my answers out of my head in most cases. So it seems I could copy and paste or try and do my own for Cee’s SYW this week……….another year, a new set of questions.

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle? I used to own a dirtbike, but several accidents (which WERE my fault) made me realise I needed to stay OFF the road. Road bikes and me, or the cars at any rate scary the willies out of me. I applaud the courage and occasional stupidity of road bike users. I don’t like bicycles for the same reason, got hit too many times as a kid and not always my fault. Explain a lot doesn’t it?

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year? Honestly? I would love to make enough money with my art, selling pieces, teaching, creating tutorials that I can quite my day job. Fingers crossed.

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you? Wow, so many, I guess being chosen as Featured Artist a magazine and creating a tutorial for

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon? I love to watch hot air balloons and kites, balloons are more fun, but you will probably never see me in one. Mind you I did say the same thing about helicopters, but I have actually done that. I don’t mind flying as much in a plane, as I cannot see the ground……..but I am not a great flyer either 🙂

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am going to change this slightly…….what am I grateful for in 2016? I lost no one in 2016 that I knew personally………..although it was a bad year for famous singers, actors, writers etc…..but personally everyone I know made it through safely. I had no surgeries last year, yay, I made it through the whole year without the need for medical intervention, apart from a recurring blocked ear……but that is nothing compared to near liver and kidney failure and weeks in hospital and ICU, also no injuries requiring surgery, no tests, procedures or ‘stuff’ that required me to even visit a hospital……….THAT I am truly grateful for.

Also my family had a lovely Christmas and NYE, nothing grand of exciting, just togetherness.

The Week ahead………… oh my, 2017 is going to be a blast. I have my first two concept shoots booked in this weekend and I am as keen as punch to get to it, I have really done nothing for the past month and I am done with that. I am going to push myself even further this year and hope to be part of something truly exciting and exceptional. I am a coach/mentor for this years Awake intake and already there is such a buzz of excitement and activity. My Kaizen Project group have taken on 2017 with some very exciting topics and I plan on wrapping up my Dapper Rabbit Concept this year and maybe taking on a new project. And because all that isn’t enough I am doing Brooke Shaden 20 day Portfolio Challenge.

Share Your World – Week 52

Week 52, can you believe it, it seems this year has taken everyone by surprise…not just me. I can honestly say I have had such a jam packed year and I am grateful to say that phase, “another year over and I have not accomplished a single damn thing” does not come out of my mouth. That’s not to say I have not sat on my butt and enjoyed doing nothing on occasion, oh but those days I can enjoy and savour, not regret. So Cee has one last lot of questions for this year.

What’s your favourite ice-cream flavor? Either chocolate or rum and raisin, but not just any rum and raisin; it has to be the good stuff. When we were kids we spent our Summer Holidays camping down by the beach, Dad spent the week at home working and drove down for the weekends. On the weekends we all used to do family things. One of our favourites was to drive to Sorrento for ice cream. There was an ice creamery that had over 50 different flavours, to us this was amazing and we always had to try new ones… took awhile to try them all. I loved their run and raisin, oh and the Dutch Double chocolate, and the peppermint, not spearmint, has to be peppermint. Oh………I miss good ice cream, these days it is off the cards – lactose intolerant. Yes I know there is lactose free ice cream, but believe me, it just isn’t the same. Soy Chocolate ice cream is disgusting, almond or coconut milk chocolate ice cream is quite nice, but just not the same.

If you were to treat yourself to the “finer things” what would you treat yourself to? I agree with Cee, cook and housekeeper for me please. I hate cleaning (yes I know everyone probably does), but I really do hate it, I love HAVING a clean house, just not the cleaning. Cooking, I don’t mind cooking, but it gets monotonous cooking for just the two of us and Moth is very, very fussy.

Have you ever been drunk? I was young once, and very, very stupid………I lost a year or two in there somewhere, alcohol, drugs and stupidity. I am lucky to have survived it. Not completely intact, but still here………lessons learned. I rarely drink these days, one or two here and there…….two usually seems to be my limit, but I indulged and had three glasses of champagne with OJ on Christmas day 🙂

Complete this sentence: My favourite supposedly guilty pleasure is… OK food, I’ll admit that, but apart from food I guess my photography is a wee bit obsessive, but I think my REAL guilty pleasure is the time on my PC, editing photos, WP, Social media, online Tutorials and creating Art………I can do it for hours and often do.dsc_5784

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful my little family has survived another year intact, I am glad Christmas is over, I love it, but it can be hectic and stressful. I know it sounds awful but so often I build it up in my head so much, that it is often anti climatic. Every year I say I wont make such a fuss, but I do, only to not have it particularly appreciated. But that’s my beef and I get over it.

The week coming up………I am still off on holidays so that is nice, sleeping in and doing what ever I feel like, it’s heaven. We have another family get together with my Favourite Aunt and her family, that is always loads of fun and no stress; why is that? I am eager to get 2017 started as well, this tail end of the year is such a lull (don’t get me wrong I love that peace & quiet), but this year was so fantastic I am excited to see WHAT is in store for 2017.

I would just like to thank everyone who reads and follows my blog, and to thank everyone whose blog I read, so much entertainment, friendship, inspirational stories and images and tales of wonder. I look forward to more of the same next year.

Monday’s Musings…

It’s December 26th, we refer to it as Boxing Day in Australia, as I believe they do in the UK….what is it referred to where you live?

We had a nice Christmas Day………nothing fancy, a sleep in (I did all my prep the day before), then a few last minute things to get ready for my Parents who came over. Then my little family got down to our present exchange, a little weird this year, pretty everyone got what they put on their wish list, we are sick of getting things we don’t won’t or need.

O had specifically asked for a particular tripod and a Wi-Fi adaptor for my camera……I got both, the kids got movies, games, books and chocolates. Moth was the one we were all excited about…………he had no idea what he wanted, so as it is his birthday as well we got him the new PS4 and some games.

It was quite funny when he opened the extra controller and games, he said but we don’t have a PS4………and then it dawned on him and his face lit up. Yup so once we ate way too much, and possibly drank a little too much, my parents left and Moth dutifully set up the PS4 and started playing his games. I now have peace and quiet to play with my toys, but more on them later. I was tired…………turkey does that, damn tryptophan! We did not overly do it, but turkey and ham and chicken and prawns and four different salads, plus chocolate cheesecake, pavlova (of course) and finished off with cheese and crackers with coffee……………for a mid day meal, is a LOT, of course throw in a few bottles of champagne. Did I mention it was hot? Real hot 37C, even the candles were melting…

Not much else to say, lazy day today, might play with my new toys later. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got over the food coma 🙂

Merry Christmas

Christmas Eve, it’s 9am and I have just finished the last of the fruit and veg….the shopping centre is becoming bedlam, and I am about to start preparations for tomorrows lunch. It’s going to be a balmy 36C here tomorrow, so a cold lunch is on the cards. Still turkey and ham, but cold with salads, followed by a big BBQ of Bacon and Eggs……..Moth’s favourite; it is his birthday after all.

We went up to the local shopping centre last night and did a bit of personal shopping; it actually wasn’t too bad, car parking was a breeze and not to crammed with people. Picked up a few pre Xmas bargains, got a free cupcake (Vegan for me, Gluten Free for Moth) – Yummo. We then came home and wandered up the street, every year our neighbours go crazy with Christmas Lights, theses ones here are from last year. I didn’t take the camera and tripod out this year……..apparently our little street is famous this season and the cars, people and dogs everywhere, it is quite ridiculous………way too dangerous to set up a tripod.

So we just wandered along, chatting to neighbours and enjoying the sights. It was a lovely balmy summer evening, perfect for wandering the streets. One neighbour has set up a snow machine this year, which was a delight for all the kids.

Christmas Eve for us used to be a very big tradition, before kids it was always a huge raging party at our place, with bodies everywhere Christmas morning. Then once we had the kids it was staying up late (late changed as the kids got older) and watched Children’s Movies…..Disney and Pixar classics. My Children now both work long hours in retail in the weeks leading up until Christmas and always work Christmas Eve……Moth and I will either wander the streets with the neighbours or if it rains (40% chance of it) we will sit at home and watch movies anyway.

For those of you in Colder Climates, this sums up the Aussie & NZ Christmas perfectly

From my family to your family I wish you all the Merriest of Days, what ever you do. Don’t forget to hugs your loved ones and fur babies.

Merry Christmas………Julz, xo

52 Week Challenge – Week 51

This week’s them is Christmas, I used an image last week for Texture that was very Christmassy…….so I thought I’d try something a little different.

Week 51 – Christmas, ISO 320, 16mm, F/4.0, 1/100 seconds

Can’t believe there is only one week to go, such a huge undertaking, OK so not quite as much as the 365 challenge – but still an achievement.

Share Your World – Week 51

This week is Cee’s special holiday edition of Share Your World, it’s only a few days ’til Christmas……….where oh where has this year gone. So much has happened locally and globally, so many highs and lows.

What types of food is associated with your holiday? We celebrate Christmas, but we are not religious. This time of year to me means, family, friends and food. Good weather, beach, sun and water and longer days. Time spent in fun. I love some many things that come with Christmas; fruit mince pies, plum pudding, turkey…….so much stuff either I cannot eat or have to change and that buggers up the taste 😦

Australians’ are renowned for fresh seafood at this time of year; something else I cannot eat…but there is the good old BBQ. We are in fact having one tonight, the first of the Christmas festivities at our house.

Do you travel for your holiday? Usually yes, we go away the week before Christmas, when everyone else is madly shopping, arguing for car parks, and the normal madness we are soaking up sunshine somewhere lovely. Last year we did the Great Ocean Road, the year Before we did Canberra and Beechworth, a few years before that was Port Douglas. Oh how I long for a tropical beach, but we opted to do Buddy’s (the dog) surgery instead. See HOW much I love my animals? I opted to spend huge amounts on him instead of me and then opted to stay home and care for him. Next year, next year I will go away again. Read more of our travels….here.

Is it a religious or spiritual holiday? Honestly neither, it is a commercial holiday, with food, wine and presents. But we do enjoy just getting together with family friends and neighbours. I have no intention of going to church or hearing about the ‘true’ meaning of Christmas. To me it is just about fun.

Is there a gift exchange? You bet your bottom dollar there is. In my immediate family it is quite a serious thing, we have list drawn up of stuff we want and people mark off what’s been brought, that way we don’t end up with crap we don’t want. Most of our friends we just have a get together, but we have one family we always exchange gifts with. Again there are lists for ideas, but we set a modest limit. My husbands family, there are no gifts, not since his Mum passed many years ago, we will catch up with them in the New Year. My Folks………well I don’t see my brother (at all) and I get gift for my parents, they try hard but often miss the mark with us girls, the guys are easy, Dad buys booze! lol

How long does the celebration last?

I tend to celebrate quietly all December long, carols in the car, I do all the work hampers myself, I complain every year, but it is fun. I make sure I am organised early, then I can kick back and relax when the last final week of madness hits. So many people say how envious of how calm and organised I am every Christmas, but I have been off work for days now and I’ve had plenty of time for cooking and cleaning.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am glad Buddy came through his surgery and first week, it was a hard and difficult week, but things are improving. Although he cannot be left locked in the laundry, he frets to the point if complete panic attack and mental break down. He cries if we leave his sight, I fear this could become quite a problem if he doesn’t calm down soon.

I am looking forward to tonight’s party and then a few days of quiet to do with as I wish. I know I put way too much emphasis on Christmas day, which I know is usually a fizzer, but it is what it is and I have all the Children around me for Christmas night………that will be fun, a BBQ, drinks and general silliness will happen, maybe a game of Monopoly or something?

So from my family to yours, again I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Christmas Cheer

I have said this time and again lately, but I really do love Christmas. One of my favourite things as a child was all the Christmas TV Shows; Charlie Brown, Scooby Doo, one of my all time favs was Frosty the Snowman. We rarely get snow at Christmas; it’s summer here so I was fascinated by snow and snowmen. So here is my take on that old classic

I also love the song too, here is a remix of the song and some of the show from YouTube.

So join some of us; Laura & Emilio and several others as we give a little Christmas Cheer. Click on Laura’s link to check out her page and see what others are doing.

So a hearty Merry Christmas to all my WP Friends…

Weekly Photo Challenge – Anticipation

This week’s WPC is anticipation, so fitting for this time of year isn’t it? We celebrate Christmas every year; catching up with family and friends, the food, the wine, the laughter and of course there is the presents.

From my family to your family, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and utterly fabulous New Year in 2017.
