OWPC – Colour Your World, Cerulean

I used to participate in OWPC every week, at first with colours and then with seasons. But then I took on so much I had to let a few things slide. But I have been looking at everyone’s posts for this week and they all look so wonderful. So I thought I might do a colour every now and then. Not everyday, it’s too much. But with 120 Day Crayola colours to choose from, I’m sure to find a few to inspire me. So this week’s OWPC is Cerulean.

OWPC – Summer

This week brings us to the final week of the Seasons Series by Jennifer Nicole Wells’ One Word Photo Challenge, and a challenge it has been. It is quite funny this week’s topic is Summer, which we are about to enter into shortly here in the Southern Hemisphere, bring long (hopefully) lazy days filled with warmth, fun and sun. Although these images were taken in Spring, to me they feel Summer.

Playing at the beach, exploring under the boardwalk and watching a fiery sunset over the ocean……………these all scream Summer to Me.

Thanks Jennifer, it’s been a great challenge. Til next time, happy snapping…..

OWPC – Winter

This week’s theme for Jennifer’s One Word Photo Challenge is Winter. I do not like Winter where I live, it’s not cold enough to snow, just be miserable, it’s not wet enough most of the time either; just cold, grey, windy and boring. It’s the only Season I really am not fond of. I envy the picturesque settings of colder climates that get snow (not that I envy their temperatures much), but that pretty pristine snow!

I know I have shown these same shots before, but they are really the only ones I have with snow capped mountains.

OWPC – Spring

Every week Jennifer Nichole Wells, challenges us with her (OWPC) One Word Photo Challenge, for this week it is Spring……….and Spring it is currently here in the Southern Hemisphere. I have been playing with Photoshop and various different effects, expanding my skill set as it were. Here is just a couple of images I have been playing with……the colours, the textures remind me of Spring and perhaps even (ever so slightly) a Monet painting?

OWPC – Autumn

This week’s One Word Photo Challenge is Autumn. That Season feels like a long way away on this side of the equator! Spring has only just arrived in the Southern Hemisphere, so I will have something for next week. For this week I went back looking through my archives for this shot;

Sunset

Sunset

It was one of those hot, humid, lazy Autumn days we get early on, before it gets cold, taken way back in March this year. I remember the awesome colours and the bugs trying to catch the last of the sunlight. I miss Autumn, but it will return, as it always does……..until then I will enjoy Spring and wait for the Summer warmth which is soon to arrive.

OWPC – Smog

This week’s One Word Photo Challenge is Smog. You would think living as close as I do to a major city, there would be plenty of smog, and you would be right………..normally. I can frequently see it in the distance, a dirty brown haze towards to city, on my way to work. However at the moment, due to weather, prevailing winds, rain? We don’t seem to have much. That meant I had to get creative.

So this is Bolte Bridge in Melbourne, I took one image into Nik Efex and added a graduated fog filter (but from the top down, not bottom up), then I added a slight grey/brown mucky tinge to it. Kind of looks like a smog haze around the bridge. Possible a little too much for Melbourne, we never get it this bad.

The other image is from the same day, slightly different angle and of course no smog.

OWPC – Blizzard

This week on One Word Photo Challenge is Blizzard, I seriously had no idea, I have never really seen a blizzard, or snow, I live in such a temperate climate, I complain about how cold it gets, be honestly it’s not THAT Cold.

blizzard
ˈblɪzəd/
noun
1. a severe snowstorm with high winds
2. a large or overwhelming number of things arriving suddenly, “a blizzard of forms”

I don’t have severe snow storms, so how about a blizzard of bubbles, or raining fire sparks, or being drenched by a waterfall?

OWPC – Wildfire

One Word Photo Challenge by Jennifer Nichole Wells, this week is Wildfire. This is something in Australia, we know a little too much about. Ever summer, bush fires and wild fire break out, some years with devastating effects and loss of life. It is horrible, it is scary, yet in Australia it is a fact of life. In Fact many of our native plants and trees need fire in order to re seed, it’s the man made fires which usually cause so much devastation.

These are images from the Mt Stromlo Observatory in ACT, 10 years after the devastating 2003 bush fires, which caused nearly 500 injuries, a few deaths and countless loss of homes and properties. Sorry about the quality of the images, these are quite old, pre DSLR days.
