OK, so this is another post I had pre prepared for Photo 101, but never got used. I have done a few quick posts, with no pretty pictures, so I thought I may as well use it instead of leaving in my drafts, or deleting it. Last time I literally just stuck locally with my Landmarks, this time I am spreading out a bit further, but I am sure most of them are easily recognizable
Luna Park, Melbourne
Flinders St Station, Melbourne
Melbourne Town Hall Xmas Lights
Time Square NY
SF Bridge at Night
San Francisco Bridge
Maddison Square Garden
Sky City Tower, Auckland, NZ
Rod Laver Arena, Melb. VIC
To clever for my own boots sometimes, I pre wrote this post for Photo 101Photo, as I was sure we would do Swarm again (we did in October 2014) Anyway I had the post, and I figure why not use it anyway? It was a fairly funny incident. So here it is;
Photo 101 -Swarm
This started out innocently enough at the time, a few pictures of seagulls, what harm could it do?
Next thing I know I literally being mobbed by them, flying straight at the camera………..anyone would think I had hot chips????????????
This is my Swarm from last year, not particularly exciting really………oh well
Sometimes it are the little things that are triumphant, that really make a big difference. Not everything is about the Big Things in life. And if nothing else Triumph is intensely personal.
A few weeks ago I was out on a shoot at Cape Schanck, Victoria with some Photographic friends with Social Snappers. I had commented that I really wanted to learn how to use ND Filters and take some long exposure photos. I had tried my self, but just couldn’t get the hang of it. Under the Guidance of Leanne Cole she walked me through the steps, not really hard once things are explained, I guess. Just need some practice. Anyway after many blurry attempts I was quite happy to product two photos. Not the most exciting to be sure, but they are my personal triumph and I was excited by them.
If you would like to read more on my ND shoot, you can find it here Using ND Filter for the first time.
My other personal triumph this month was a properly set up studio shoot with a 7y.o girl, 2 large dogs and some snakes. I have not really done much in the way of portrait photography, but was keen to try. I was extremely happy with the final result, as were her parents. I now have a new model for whenever I wish to Play (especially dress up!) For more on Tales from the Photo shoot, read here.
Here is my Triumph from last time
So what was your Triumph this month?
I should have expected Edge for today, I am on edge………..everyone seems to be pushing my proverbial buttons today! I should not be angry and railing at the world, but I just cannot seem to help it.
So here is some straight lines and edges
Oh this is from last time Edge
Double, Bubble, Toil and Trouble………….or in this case triple trouble. Just a bit of fun in Photoshop
This is from last time………..Photo101 – Double, I guess I put a little more physical effort into last time!
Today’s theme for Photo101 is Glass, I have been going through some old photos to find something with Glass……….I know I should be taking new photos for this challenge, but frankly I just don’t have the time with everything that is going on. The photos aren’t the hard part it’s the editing and post! I think I have a problem, I’m addicted to the Post Processing……..maybe I should write a post on that? But now for the glass –
Stained Glass Window from a Church
Old style Advertising on a Pub Glass Window + its reflection
Welcome home through the front window
This is my Glass post from last time, I actually still like the glasses, I think it is quite clever, even if a bit rustic! (Not so sure about the water over/ through the window).
These are some recent shots taken down at Flinders, Victoria, Even though for the most part I was happy with the overall feel of the image, I felt that some had more impact and drama when up close. The first two, I did not line up the shot as well as I should have, I was so busy lining up the beach and sand and hills in the distance and did not even notice the boat I chopped in half! Newbie mistake, anyway I was much happier once I cropped out the 1/2 boat and lost some of the sky, I thought it was a bit overwhelming in the original image. I used to Zoom into everything, now I generally tend to take in the bigger picture, I can always crop if I decide to.
I always seem to have the horizon in the middle, even though I am actively thinking about composition and rule of thirds, I then get home and see that I still have that damn horizon line smack bang in the middle of the picture. Sometimes it works other times it is just too damn distracting!! Oh the pain of a newbie! lol
P.S. how long can I get away with proclaiming myself a Newbie? lol
This cute little Elephant was a gift from a colleague, from a trip to Thailand, he sits on top of my monitor at work. From close up he looks really big, but once you scale back you get to see he really is quite small. Different angles and using telephoto on images can make them look really large or quite small.
By using my finger as a scale, you can see just how tiny this frog really was…………all grown up now!
By taking a photo from ground level you can make things look really big or further away in the distance.
Apologies for quality of top images, all taken on my old camera at work……….oh I do not miss that camera when I am out shooting photos with my new one!!
To capture a moment, is easier said than done at times, and other moments happen so fast and we are lucky when we catch them. Other moments, if we have a little patience and some perseverance we can get the shot ………these first three were waves crashing over rocks at Flinders Beach last weekend. I had been trying to capture some long exposures (Pulpit Rock below), and then decided just to grab a few quick shots as well.
This next one is a real rarity that I am showing you…………two Orcs kissing??! This is Moth and I on our Wedding Anniversary…….I kid you not. This was at Pelannor Fields, where they shot several scenes from LOTR near Twizel in New Zealand. A silly bit of fun, sure, but still a Moment, I think everyone took a pic……….I mean you usually don’t get to see two Orcs kissing – do you? Oh and the mace? That was for my protection! lol
P.S. No Husbands were harmed in the making of this picture!
Oh I forgot, my Moment from last year
