Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink? Water, soft drink….it depends on how thirsty, how hot I am etc. My most go to drink is actually a coffee, but of late I will sometimes be found with a Pimms, Lemonade and Ginger Ale……I know, so old-fashioned aren’t I? Actually I was introduced to this drink in New Zealand a few years ago, as they did not have rum, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Complete this sentence:  Never In My Life Have I…. jumped out of an air plane, nor killed a person (Not planning on doing either anytime soon, but if I had to do them to safe my life or that of a loved one…..I might be capable.

If you could be given any gift what would it be? Time off for being creative and the joy it brings me, time to just BE. I don’t get much down time, nor just ME time, and I do enjoy it.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep, toss and turn, or get up and try to do something productive? I frequently toss and turn, especially if it’s cold out and the bed is snug and warm. When it is real bad I get up and try to do something productive, but relaxing, like create art, or scroll through post, web pages etc looking for inspiration. Sometimes I jot things down in my journal that are floating around my brain… gets them out so I can sleep better.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

On Friday I went on annual leave (again) and on Saturday Hubby and I drove up the coast and spent a few wonderful days exploring at part of the coast we have not been to before. We saw a glorious sunrise and sunset, and 3 days of great weather, the fourth day was horrible so we left in the morning instead of the afternoon to come home.

I am still on holidays and just catching up on stuff around here, but later in the week I am getting together with friends from my Awake Artistry course from Australia and New Zealand for 4 days of fun, exploration and photography. It will be so nice to meet so many people face to face. Some I know through WP as well. It should be a great time.

When writing by hand do you prefer to use a pencil or pen? I am not really phased by one of the other, if I am scribbling notes I’ll happily use a pencil, but if I am writing to someone, which I rarely do, I always use a pen. I handwrite my Christmas cards in pen, but I am sending less and less, preferring to send e-Cards.

Would you rather be an amazing dancer or an amazing singer? Singer! Although I do like to move to the rhythm as well. But I love to sing, I have said it before; in the shower, especially in the car……..shame I am not very good 🙂

If you were on a debate team, what subject would you relish debating? Why smacking your kids is a GOOD thing. Seriously don’t get me started on the half wits around now-a-days……no fear of chastisement, as they know there is nothing anyone can do. Back in my day (GOD I sound like my GrandMother!) a good smack would whip us into line and we had respect for the person handing out that smack, or in my case, belt. Honestly the world is going down a craphole and most of it could be solved if people punished their children. No I’m not talking about physical abuse, just a simple smack on the bum!

What are you a “natural” at doing? Being creative, photography took a bit to learn, and I am still learning, but it seems I am quite good at that…but it’s the art; the creative, imaginative art that sets my imagination and soul on fire. I have always had an active imagination, now I can play it out on the screen. I used to paint and I was OK, I could never seem to create what was in my minds’ eye when I painted, but digitally I can create almost anything. It’s wonderful, I wish I had discovered it years ago, but then digital art was not what it is today, is it?

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

So much in my life is wonderful right now, I just had a fantastic Outback Adventure, a lovely quiet Easter weekend with family and friends and now on Saturday Moth and I are off on another adventure……..this time we are hitting more of Victoria’s amazing coastline. We are picking up where we left off from the Great Ocean Road Trip and heading East; more Light houses and fabulous coastal vistas. Can’t wait, hopefully I can get some more amazing photography like last week.

On a more boring note, I have finally caught up with two years of taxation stuff and I think I have finally sorted out most of my Photography Catalogue in Lightroom……such a headache, but both of them now seem to be under control……..whew! Now THAT’s a relief.

I hope you are have a fantastic week…don’t forget to visit Cee’s SYW Page

Have you ever participated in a distance walking, swimming, running, or biking event? Tell your story. I just completed a long distance drive through Outback Australia on dirt roads, does that count? Apart from that….are you crazy? have you MET me or READ my posts? NO! I’m with Emilio, I can sleep for long stretches, or even create for long stretches but that’s about it. Oh wait when I was young and dumb (maybe 19) we did a long distance bike ride from Castlemaine to Melbourne………….never, ever again. It nearly killed me!

First Photos-1

Name one thing not many people know about you. This is a tough one….I am pretty much an open book. I used to paint, I did a lot of Folk Art, I used to teach and run a studio. So I guess being creative has always been in my blood. I also used to own horses, I used to compete in Gymkhanas and do barrel racing, but mostly just rode for fun.

My last Horse Buster, I was about 16 – 17 when I took this

What is your favorite flower? I do love so many; Roses, especially Peonies. Lotus Blossom, Gerbera, Dahlia.

Things I want to have in my home (paintings, hot tubs, book cases, big screen tv etc) I don’t really need or want much, my house is great, even if the bedrooms could be a bit bigger. I guess a King Size bed and a room big enough to put in it! With the animals taking up a good sized portion of the bed a bigger bed would be nice.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Easy, last week was an amazing week spent travelling the Australian Outback with my Hubby and a group of friends. Lots of amazing scenery, lots of photos and good fun.

The week coming up……just as easy. Tonight my Son in Law flies in for a week. We have not seen him since Christmas and I know my daughter is looking forward to seeing her Hubby as well. Pretty soon she will be moving back in with him, but in another state, a long way from us 😦  It is also Easter this weekend, so that means a long weekend! Oh and chocolate, did I mention chocolate? lol. Actually Easter Friday is a special day for us, as it is one of the rare days that no one in the family is working, so we all spend it together. THAT is something to look forward to.

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)? Ann… middle name is Ann (No E), I don’t think there was ever any real significance, just seemed to go with Julie. There were a LOT of JulieAnn’s around when I was a kid.

Music or silence while working? It always used to be music, but after a houseful of kids and animals and Xbox games, their loud music and the never ending TVs on in our house, these days it is quiet. If there is no one home I turn everything OFF. I like to sit outside in the quiet with a cuppa and my journal and think. Sometimes I have music on when I am creating, but honestly, once I am in the zone the music can stop and I don’t even notice.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be? Well you pretty much ruled everything else out. My Journal, sits beside me on the desk or in my bag. My wedding, engagement and eternity rings sit on my fingers, I have a jewellry box for other treasures (Nan’s engagement ring) my most special possessions apart from those are my family (furry and non), my camera gear and my PC.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do? This is kind of hard……sounds silly, but things I thought I would never, ever do – I have now actually done! Never, ever thought you would get me in a Helicopter; done it. Stood in front of a window in a high rise building/lookout – done it (albeit my back was to the window). So most things I would have said never ever…….are doubtful, but not impossible.

In saying that, I don’t think I could ever hurt, maim or kill someone. I would never drive drunk. I don’t think I could live somewhere really, really cold (I’m talking below 10C).

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am still on a creative high from the Alice shoot I did the week before, that is one shoot, that just keeps on giving. I am also grateful for the art I do, the friends I have made, the things I have learnt and places travelled. This weekend, we are off on another adventure, into the Australian Outback. We are going to places Moth and I have never been, or to places I have not been in so long, I can no longer recall them. Ten days of dust, flies, mosquitoes, kangaroos and and never ending open road. Can’t wait!

Well that is it from me, due to be away, I may not post next week, but I wish you all happy snapping and safe travels…

Each week Cee asks us a set of questions for which we can share a little bit more about our world.

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? In my head I am no different to when I was 20 or 30 something. OK possibly smarter, calmer and a lot wiser, I also have more experience, more self confidence. It’s funny ages is just a number, the reality of that number is very weird. 50 is sneaking up on me this year, 50! I mean that was so old when I was 20……but I don’t FEEL old on the inside. The Outside, well that’s another matter, I look in the mirror and I just don’t know who that fat old lady is staring back at me.Not to mention the failing body parts – back, knees, hips…….now my shoulder is acting up as well! Oh dear…..time for me to shut up now 🙂

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house? Actually I have no idea where my umbrella is, don’t really care. I think there is one in the car. I have my raincoat or I just get a little wet……..I’m not a witch I wont melt!

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending with quiet time alone? I recharge best alone, or at least alone with hubby (if that makes sense?) I seldom get 100% alone time, and often when I do I can’t figure out what to do with myself – silly isnt it. I had a few hours last month, so I sat down and watched a movie. Long drives, sitting by the beach, watching waves. Or sitting on the back deck with a cuppa watching the animals and wildlife play. Creating art on the PC………I can and often do, lose myself for hours.

JuliePowell_Through the Looking Glass

Name three things you and your spouse, partner or best friend  to have in common. Exploring, photography, sci-fiction TV show like Dr. Who, Star Trek, StarGate or some crime shows NCIS, Bones.

Betty Boo parked waiting for us on the side of a deserted highway

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  I had the most amazing shoot on the weekend, trialled and was thrilled with a new MUA. Everything was perfect, the weather, no holds ups, creativity flowed and we had a lot of fun.I hopefully have another fun shoot on Saturday, then a family catch up on Sunday, which I am sure will be all about the upcoming nuptials and family trip to Bali (we are only spending 3 days with family over there…..I am sure that is plenty). A Neice is getting married in Bali in October and we will be spending a few weeks there. Then a few more days of work and we are off on our Outback Adventure.

Share Your World – Feb 28th, 2017

Ever ran out of gas in your vehicle? I don’t think I have ever ran out of gas, had to push a car that broke down, but I can’t remember running out of gas. It may have happened and I just can’t remember it 🙂

Which are better: black or green olives? I don’t particularly like either to be honest, if I find olives on a pizza, I with usually pick them off.

If you were a great explorer, what would you explore? I love exploring, anywhere and everywhere, I would adore to go to Jordan, Egypt, Marrakech……but instability and finances mean I may never get to go, but I still hope. This year I am travelling to Bali for a wedding and two weeks of exploring; so I hope that will be an adventure. I must admit, that even if my mind is willing to travel to far and exotic places, my body is struggling to keep up.

Quotes List: At least three of your favorite quotes?

  1. “Be who you were created to be and you will set the world on fire” – St Catherine of Sienna
  2. “All of our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them” – Walt Disney
  3. “Fear is the dream killer” – I have no idea who said this
  4. “Find your Bliss” – Joseph Campbell (I know I snuck in four………..cheeky aren’t I?

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Last week was horrible, I’ll admit it, but at the same time, totally amazing and overwhelming. I wont go into all the details, but it was a tough week, for various different reasons, all of which snuck up on me at once. So I threw a pity party! It did make me feel a little better; but it was the comments, emails and support I received from all my artists and blogger friends. WOW! I really felt blessed and uplifted……..for that I am truly grateful. But because of that particular shit sandwich for the week (actually the whole month was pretty crappy in some regards) I created loads and loads of images; I created a storm of self pity! Some very cool images too.

Losing Myself

Who is the Puppet Master?

Fractured Selves

So this week……I was contacted by a new model yesterday who would like to come and work with me (this might sound conceited, but I love it when they come to me! I don’t have to go begging family and friends!), so we are trying to arrange a time this weekend and I am planning out some new concepts to try as well. I am still trying to finish off editing my last shoot with Mel and the Zoo and a recent astro shoot at the beach. I seem to have a very large to do list and not much time. So lots to look forward too!

Don’t forget to check out Cee’s post for the details and see what everyone else is writing.

I hope you all have a fantastic week, happy snapping…

When you cut something with scissors, do you move your jaw (as if you were about to chew)? Not that I am aware of, what a strange thing? But, perhaps there are some out there who do?

Do you chew your pens and pencils? I don’t chew on them so much as to put big dents in them, but I am known to put one in my mouth from time to time when I cam thinking. I also tap them on desks and such and of course lots of scribbles when stuck on the phone.

Are you a collector of anything?  If so what? Camera gear? Oh and Still Life photography props, it’s amazing the stuff you seem to collect, without meaning too. A bit here, a bit there. Oh and not that I am collecting them as much as I am be given them, but I now have an impressive collections of ballgowns for concept photography…weird, right?

What size is your bed? Queen…..but way too small. I love it when we travel and get a King Size bed and NO animals…..oh heaven. I would love a King sized bed at home, but it would not physically fit in our bedroom; our bedrooms are quite small.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I got to work with a new model and got a start on my new series (The Tarot, card of mysteries). I also took some other shots for various projects. I have been very active on the computer with various images lately, I feel inspired and that is a good thing.

Butterfly Kisses

The fact that I am feeling inspired is allowing me to get lots of work done, however it leaves little time for other things, like housework and cooking. I can live with the dust, but we have started getting prepared meals delivered a few times, to feed us at least 3-4 nights a week. Breakfast is easy, salads for lunch is fine, but it’s the evening meal when I just want to create is such a pain and we can never agree on what to eat, so we end up with pizza or crap of some description. Now at least we have fresh healthy meals all prepared and just need to be heated, even in the microwave if we really want it quick. Next week…………not sure, hopefully more of the same?

Share Your World – Feb 14th, 2017

I think I answered some of these last week in the 100 questions no-one asks, but that is OK most of those were one word answers. So this week Cees asks us to Share Our World with the following questions.

Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out? I have to agree with Cee, bottom in but sides out, it’s the whole animal thing, they take up so much of the bed and are so stubborn if you have to get out you need to escape out the sides, can’t do that with them tucked in. Also I tend to get hot and have the whole sleep with my legs out thing, need at least a sheet on the top part of me, but like my legs o=uncovered from time to time – weird right?

Have you stolen a street sign before? Oh Yes, Cee said she didn’t even know anyone who had, well she does now…..I never said I was an Angel 😛

Do you cut out coupons but then never use them? Yes, but mostly fuel coupons and then forget them when I get fuel. Thankfully these days most of my savings like that are on a swipe card.

Do you have freckles? Yes I have a few, not many. When I was younger and lived in the water (I loved the pool, the beach, rivers, creeks) I was always in the Sun and always had lots of freckles on my nose and cheeks……these days I cover up more and don’t seem to get them as much.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I got to go out and explore more of my Marvelous Melbourne, it never lets me down, even when I think I have seen it all; it shows me hidden gems. I have been to the Royal Exhibition Buildings plenty of times, but never just sat and looked at it at twilight and early evening with the lights come on and the stars come out………magic.

I also got to book my upcoming trip to Bali, finalised our Outback Adventure in April and booked another exhibit for my art. Made plans for a few short stay trips over the next coming months, while the weather is still good, as well as some photoshoots. So that is plenty to be grateful for. This weekend, I am hoping to have another photo shoot arranged for my new Series I am starting and that is about it at the moment.

Share Your World – Feb 7, 2017

Another fun week with Cee’s Share Your World

Regarding your fridge, is it organized or a mess inside? Inevitably my fridge (and my freezer) are an organised mess, things have their place, but with four adults in the house who eat alot of fresh fruit and vegetables….the fridge is often booby-trapped by the stuff that won’t fit where it is supposed to. The fruit drawer is overflowing and cut melon, berries etc are in containers on shelves. The Vegetable crisper is also overflowing with various bits and pieces. All the sauces, marinades, dressings etc fit in the door, along with the juices, sweet tea and occasionally a little bottle of something (wine, champagne etc) sneaks in there as well. Left over pizza becomes a nightmare at the start of the food week and at Christmas the normal fridge is even worse (if that is possible) and we have two bar fridges that get called into action, as well as the ‘beer’ fridge outside. Actually it rarely holds beer at all, it is in the studio so it has cold drinks, jugs of water and occasionally flowers and items for still life!

Do you prefer your food separated or mixed together? I guess all mixed up, I love a stir-fry with everything just thrown in. Even on my plate I task a little from each pile on my fork, before I eat it, so yes I guess all mixed up, unless it’s like lollies (candy), crisps or chocolate…………they have to be kept separate.

Do you prefer reading coffee table books (picture), biographies, fiction, non-fiction, educational? I used to be such a book-worm, I read all the time. But since I recovered from being very sick a few years ago, I don’t think I have anything that wasn’t online regarding photography or photoshop. I mostly read blog posts and watch videos. I don’t just sit and read anymore. I should, but I don’t seem to enjoy it as much as I used to. I now find peace and zen in photography and editing, as well as creating my art, it can become all consuming and there is no time left to read. But when I did read it was fiction, fantasy and some sci-fi. I love witches and wizards and faeries and elves and magic and dragons. Lord of the Rings, Shanara and Harry Potter type stuff. I also enjoy art and photography coffee table books.

Close your eyes. Listen to your body. What part of your body is seeking attention? What is it telling you? All of it…….it’s telling me I need a new one! Everything creeks, groans and aches. I ignore it most of the time, occasionally I can’t and then I either push through or give up and take a day of complete rest, but mostly I push as hard as I can and then deal with the pain later. Sounds worse than it is……mostly.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Last week…….hmm not really sure it all went by so fast, but nothing of note really happened. I did buy a new underwater camera and on Sunday I am doing an underwater shoot, I an excited and terrified all at the same time…it’s more about getting into a bathing costume in front of people I don’t really know than the photography, perhaps I will just stay in my clothes, but wet clothes will make it difficult to work. My model will be in long flowing dresses, so maybe if she can do it, so can I?

Joyful Flight

What is the most incredible natural venue that you’ve ever seen in person? Are you kidding? Oh My where to start, sun rises over Uluru and Kata Juta, sun rising over The Remarkables (NZ) with fresh snow, Milford Sound (NZ), helicopter flight over Kings Canyon (NT) New Zealand (take your pick too many spot to choose), 12 Apostles (great Ocean Road), Cape Tribulation, Church of the Good Shepherd. Stop me now…

How many siblings do you have? What’s your birth order? [I refuse to admit, that I actually have an older brother] – Only child with a dead head/idiot in the family somewhere. You cannot pick and choose your family, Huh? What a crock, my friends are my family and I have a wonderful family.

If you were a shoe, what kind would you be and why? Flip Flops (we call them thongs here in Australia)……I live in them Winter or Summer, so comfortable and reliable, but when they snap…………you KNOW it!

What is the strangest/weirdest thing you have ever eaten? I am a bit of a sook sometimes, if it wriggles I am not overly interested……however I have had witchetty grub soup……tastes a lot like peanut butter. I have also had snake, croc, emu, buffalo, and kangaroo.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  I am so grateful to all my friends (see above aka family) who came to say hello and support me at my gallery exhibit last Friday.

This selfi is just a few! I was also grateful for a four day weekend, I wish we had more of them! This week, I am an open book……….it feels really weird, last year just about every weekend was booked up with stuff, this year I am taking things a little slower, but I am working hard behind the scenes to get new projects started and other exciting things happening.
