Friday Flowers – Magnolia “Star Wars”

It’s been a while since I did a Friday Flowers post,  so I thought I would fix that with something I spotted on a recent outing. It was the first weekend of Winter, and I came across this Magnolia tree, with a few tenacious buds sprouting, such a pretty colour and then I noticed the…

Star Wars – The Last Jedi

OK, so I am a little behind in my movie viewing, but this movie was released 11 days before Christmas, crazy, crazy times and then Hubby had been on-call for work, there was no way I was going to see this without him, divorce, as simple as that I am sure. Or possibly an unmarked…

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “The Transporter.”

It’s really strange the random thoughts that pop in to heads isn’t it? I was trying to think of something for this post and nothing was really coming to mind, until suddenly the da da dum dum de dum dum (or something like that……it’s hard to write what you are humming!) from the opening credits from the very first Star Wars Movie popped into my mind (Surely you know the tune!). I am not one to dismiss the first thing that pops in there, for some reason it is usually the best idea, so here goes.

star-wars-opening-shot_9246I here the theme song from the Opening Credits in Star Wars – A New Hope and I am suddenly transported back in time. It was early 1978, the movie had just been released that summer. We were on holidays on the Rosebud Foreshore (Victoria), as we always were back then for summer school holidays. It was one of those hot, wet, sticky days and Mum took us to the movies as a special treat. I remember the smell, the feel of the old leather seats, it was hot and stuffy, and then the lights dimmed and the music started. The opening credits scrolled up the screen, I watched and read with interest, to my 10 year old mind it was new and strange and vaguely disturbing. Then the vibration and humming started as the battle cruises slowly comes into view, chasing and shooting at the imperial cruiser with Princess Leia on board. This got my immediate attention. When Darth Vader first boards the vessel, this was truly a villain of note. I was completely swept up and lost for the entirety of the movie. This was like something on one had ever seen before, I was spell bound, and still am every time I see it. Yes the special FX are far superior now, but there is elegance and merit in that first movie that I feel can never be replaced by computers. In fact I might go watch it again now!
