2024 South Australia & Kangaroo Island Road Trip – Day 12

Up early to beat the heat. Southern Australia (SA and Victoria) was heading for a very late Summer heatwave. We headed into Adelaide, we wanted to visit a few gardens before it got too hot, but they were all closed to the public for a big festival on the weekend. We also gave up on the state library as most parking nearby we couldn’t get into with the pod and most street parking was blocked off, againĀ the festivals. So instead we drove to Carrick Hill and had a wander around. More of a wedding venue than historic one with lots of advertising and such.

We had the most delicious pizza for lunch at nearby Rosella’s restaurant, which was also setting up for a big Woman’s Day function. Oh well, perhaps the gardens gardens may be better in Spring? Although we did take a few shots and I finally got my macro lens out!

We tried to find a few ruins, some we couldn’t get to others were closed for the weekend (who closes a ruin for a long weekend?). When we did finally locate Deep Creek Bridge it was down a big hill covered in blackberry bushes…pass! Frustrating.

We ended up driving around Mt Lofty and visited Waterfall Gully, but there really was not much water. Next, we drove back to Port Wilunga a few km from where we had been shooting sunset. Such a long walk to the beach and so hot 36c today. We gave it a miss. We’ve been on the road a while and feeling tired with the increasing heat. So much so that we made the call to cut our trip short by one day. We were going to spend Saturday exploring Mt Gambier but, 40plus temps was just a horrid thought.

We eventually made it back to the house to cool off, before cooking dinner and then went back to Willunga Beach for one last sunset. Then back to the house to start packing up, as we sadly had to leave Aldinga and start heading home.

Here ends day 12….stay tuned for Day 13.
