Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge I or J

This week’s challenge theme with I or J is a bit more difficult, in fact I really could not find a photo for I – it’s probably something so simple I missed it and have a face palm moment when I see everyone else’s post. But for this week I bring you an old jetty and an old jalopy.

Sometimes it’s easier just to keep things simple! I hope you all have a brilliant weekend. I’m off on a new adventure, chat soon.

WPC – Dense

This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge is Dense. It seems many people had the same thought as I and immediately went for a dense forest. Mine is from a Light Painting gig we did in the Redwood Forest. It is cool and creepy at the same time. Midnight in a deserted dense redwood forest, in the middle of winter in freezing conditions? So what do you do on a Saturday night?

As a mad photographer and a digital artist, I will do just about anything for a really cool photo!

In the Studio – Alice, Through the Looking Glass

“I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then”
Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

Don’t you just love it, when everything falls into place; the stars are in alignment and Karma is your friend? I had a dream shoot recently, the skies were sunny and clear (although we were shooting in the studio, but I had to doors open most of the time to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. We had a new Make-up artist who did an amazing job; Micaela Hannan. My model for the day was Jess Ami, who has the most amazing large eyes and expressive face. Both arrived on time, no flat batteries, tyres or traffic hazards to hold things up. Make-up went smoothly and the shoot was a dream. I didn’t even have a drama with the cupcakes this time!

Alice, through the looking glass was the inspiration behind this shoot and I had been writing idea, after idea in my journal; I had all my ideas planned out and my props selected and set up. It was such a cruisy day, we took plenty of breaks and had lots of fun.

I then spent a fair bit of the next few days going through all the images. Some I wanted kept basic, bare bones or B&W, but a few I ran into Photoshop for a little bit of Magic……I mean honestly, what is Alice without a little magic?

I played around with some High Key and some more vintage stylings as well as a softer, fantasy/surreal stylings. To say I was happy with the images is a complete understatement.

To be honest I am still going through the images, we had such a flurry of activity, I have not edited them all as yet.

We even had time to shoot some more images for my Tarot Series……….cue the Page of Wands, The Moon and The Empress please….but let’s leave those for another post?

I actually have another Alice shoot in the works, but more on the Mad Hatters Tea Party……….but that is another day and another post.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Spring/ Wood

It’s Spring! Well actually no it’s not, here in Australia it is actually Autumn, or Fall as some prefer. Cee’s kicking off another month with a different challenge theme, this time season’s. I love Spring and Autumn, the weather is often better, Summer can get too hot and Winter in miserable. I travel more often, especially in Autumn.

So I have a gallery full of wood and a few Spring growth to break it up. I have to ‘travel’ back in time a bit for some shots from my Last Spring.

The last one is as wooden as I can get a timber fence and a timber house in the High Country.

Autumn Wanderings – You Yangs Regional Park

On a recent weekend trip away we took the off ramp at Little River on the way to Geelong, we have never visited this area before and decided it was high time we did.

The surrounding area is quite flat and then there is this sudden upswell of land and we drive into the YouYangs Regional Park…….predominantly made up of giant Granite boulders. There are several dirt road tracks to explore, countless walking tracks and lots and lots of mountain bike and horse trail tracks, there is also rock climbing and abseiling. We did the Great Circuit Drive(12Kms), then drove up to Flinders Peak and then Big Rock………….wow what an understatement, that rock is enormous, you can walk on it; the shot with the smaller boulders and the tree is ON TOP of Big Rock! Great views over the western Plains and Geelong from up here. It must be (Dangerous) and spectacular in the rain.

DSC_8099-Pano

It was quite eerie in spots where the evidence of not too distant bush fires have devastated part of the Park, blackened trunks, no undergrowth and only a few trees with fresh growth at the top. We explored a pleasant few hours exploring this region, did a few walks and took lots of pics……great spot for some future photo shoots!

Until next time, safe travels and happy snapping…

Regular Random – The Fob Watch

As per usual I seem to be running behind on this challenge, but I have hopefully made good on something a little more interesting.

I needed some better images of my Fob Watch for an image I was working on…

JuliePowell_Alice, TickTock

Tick, Tock, Time Keeper

So I thought I might actually set up a little mini photo shoot, with my Fob Watch as the star. I have had this particular watch for nearly 30 years and there is a sad little story to go along with it, maybe one day I’ll go into details, but it was a whole other life ago. I dragged it out of hiding perhaps a little more than a year ago and it has sweet bitter memories, but now I am creating new memories, sweet, funny and creative memories. So I set myself up for 5 minutes, using one studio light and my Nifty Fifty.

Oh and they are not in B&W………just very little colour 🙂 silver watch, white cloth, grey stoneware bowl.

Share Your World – 28th March, 2017

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)? Ann…..my middle name is Ann (No E), I don’t think there was ever any real significance, just seemed to go with Julie. There were a LOT of JulieAnn’s around when I was a kid.

Music or silence while working? It always used to be music, but after a houseful of kids and animals and Xbox games, their loud music and the never ending TVs on in our house, these days it is quiet. If there is no one home I turn everything OFF. I like to sit outside in the quiet with a cuppa and my journal and think. Sometimes I have music on when I am creating, but honestly, once I am in the zone the music can stop and I don’t even notice.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be? Well you pretty much ruled everything else out. My Journal, sits beside me on the desk or in my bag. My wedding, engagement and eternity rings sit on my fingers, I have a jewellry box for other treasures (Nan’s engagement ring) my most special possessions apart from those are my family (furry and non), my camera gear and my PC.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do? This is kind of hard……sounds silly, but things I thought I would never, ever do – I have now actually done! Never, ever thought you would get me in a Helicopter; done it. Stood in front of a window in a high rise building/lookout – done it (albeit my back was to the window). So most things I would have said never ever…….are doubtful, but not impossible.

In saying that, I don’t think I could ever hurt, maim or kill someone. I would never drive drunk. I don’t think I could live somewhere really, really cold (I’m talking below 10C).

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am still on a creative high from the Alice shoot I did the week before, that is one shoot, that just keeps on giving. I am also grateful for the art I do, the friends I have made, the things I have learnt and places travelled. This weekend, we are off on another adventure, into the Australian Outback. We are going to places Moth and I have never been, or to places I have not been in so long, I can no longer recall them. Ten days of dust, flies, mosquitoes, kangaroos and and never ending open road. Can’t wait!

Alice, down the rabbit hole

Well that is it from me, due to be away, I may not post next week, but I wish you all happy snapping and safe travels…

Tuesday’s Textures – The Gabriel Collaboration

The Gabriel Collaboration was started by an Nigerian Artist by the name Gabriel Olude; I know him through Awake. He had this idea to share 50 photos of his models, he calls his Muses with 50 other artists. We in turn share with him 20 images of our photos with him, we have our own private Facebook Group and share our creations. Many of us have offered our images to others within the group as well. So what’s the point of all this? Nothing really, but to create some wonderful art with images we may otherwise would not have access to.

Monday’s Musings…

I can’t believe in just a few days we will be on another adventure, our first of many this month; we head off into the Australian Outback, stopping at many iconic places along the way. The town names may not mean anything to most of you, but these places have appeared in many movies; Mad Max, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Red Dog, Wolf Creek and so many more. Red Dust, blue skies, flies, mozzies (Mosquitoes) and the open road; flat open land as far as the eye can see, so flat in sport you can see the curvature of the horizon. I don’t even know if I will be able to post, so I may be a bit quiet. I will schedule a few bits and pieces.

But for now I need to pack and get things organised and wait. I spent this weekend doing mostly boring household chores, but I did manage to get a few videos done for the YouTube channel……..check it outYouTube channel……..check it out, I’ll wait 🙂

I also got to play in the studio for a little bit, I feel like I have not done any still life in so long…..almost feel I am loosing my Mojo a bit. But I feel a real sense of being ALIVE when I shoot my conceptual portraits……I am adoring the latest Alice Series……still working on it and each piece, just gets better and better.

Sunday we had a big BBQ with hubby side of the family……enjoyable but still exhausting. Honestly there is nothing as exhausting as sitting around, eating, drinking and talking….why is that?

Well that’s about it from me, nothing much to really report, just counting down…happy snapping.
