Share Your World – 30th October 2018

Mel has an extended set of QUESTIONS for this week’s Halloween themed SYW.
I will attempt to answer all of them, because…well why not I have a bit of time up my sleeve today.

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building. I have actually done both, but not while something evil or scary is chasing me. I don’t really watch horror movies much, but they always seem to do something dumb, don’t they? I mean you know what’s about to happen, and I often would facepalm and go d’oh “Why do THAT?”

Share the creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone. I was living in a share house years ago, and I was working shift work. I swear someone was in the laundry and running the tap and washing machine and such and I was talking to them when they didn’t answer I walked to the laundry to see what they were doing and found no-one there. I also once had a Coke can move across a table.

What would you like your last words to be? Told you I was sick? Seriously, I am not really sure. I guess Life Live, don’t regret the things you never did or tried.

Do you believe in any ‘mythical’ monsters like chupacabras or shadow people? I think that there are places on this planet so rarely explored it is possible that there are creatures there that we do not know about, but Mythical Monsters? I don’t think so, so many monsters from years past could be easily explained today. Even the chupacabras have been explained as a type of canine affected by mange. Now shadow people , on the other hand, could be paranormal or is it even possible that they are ripples from an alternate reality? I do watch a lot of sci-fi, so I am more likely to go with that theory than a scary one!

How long do you think you would last in a horror movie? I am thinking due to my large size and state of fitness level, not long. In a Zombie apocalypse, I am pretty sure I would be a goner pretty quick, even if they can only shuffle. I can move barely more than a shuffle and not for too long, they would eventually wear me down.

Are you afraid of or find clowns creepy? I grew up in the 80s clowns are usually creepy, IT, Poltergeist (PS No I have not seen the new versions). At a circus and in the right context I am not afraid of clowns as such and find the amusing and entertaining. I even hired a clown for my girls’ birthday party many, many years ago. But clowns in movies? That is more often than not going to lead to a happy ending.

In the zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice? Considering I know I would not last too long, I think a gun to shoot them in the head, you always go for the head. Sure a sword to chop off their heads works well too, but that is an awful lot of effort to repeatedly swing that sword. Go for the gun, definitely the gun!

Have you ever had your tarot cards read? Definitely, including trying to read my own. I even own a set of Waite Tarot Cards and started creating my own digital art for Tarot Cards. I have not done it in so long, I have lost the knack and know how a little these days.

Anyone know the reason behind putting candles in jack-o-lanterns? I’m an Aussie so we don’t do jack-o-lanterns, but I am guessing the candles were meant to make them look alive? The Celts used to place candles in carved vegetables to light the way home for good spirits. Perhaps there is a link there. I know the Americans have Halloween to a whole new commercial level (no offence) but the traditional Hallowe’en or All Hallows Eve, or even Samhain is a Celtic pagan festival from around 1500s. Although it does coincide with Mexico and Latin American in general, it is referred to as ” Día de los Muertos ” which translates in English to “Day of the dead“. Most of the people from Latin America construct altars in their homes to honour their deceased relatives and they decorate them with flowers and candies and other offerings. There are other similarities around the world as well. Pretty much like everything these days it has also been commercialised heavily.

Do you think putting special emphasis on certain holidays – like Halloween is ‘spooky’ for example — is a good idea or just more mindless entertainment for the masses? I think these traditions are great and fun, however, they have become so heavily commercialised. The problem with some of these holidays is that it is extremely hard to live up to expectations. Various TV shows and movies have given many people unrealistic expectations of what should be done and how much effort they should go into to celebrate with family and friends, often trying to outdo what they did the year before, or even neighbours. We often have this here with Christmas lights on houses. They spend so much time and money, they forget to simply enjoy the time with family and friends.

Share a positive thought or message or something that’s inspired you this week.

This week is my Blogaversary. I received a message this morning stating it has been four years since I started my blog, well fancy that!

I had my car break down and sorted under warranty in a single day, got to be happy with that. It also gave me an extra hour to play with my camera while waiting for the service guy to arrive, can only be a good thing.

I have a 5 day weekend coming up, some me time, also some family time, some creative time, I have two creative shoots coming up this weekend, one with Jess and another with Sue from Ballarat, she is coming to me this time, very excited, can’t wait. Sue and I tend to bring out the best in each other creatively. She says I kick her butt and get her motivated, but she tends to hold me accountable as well.

I feel like in some ways I have lost my Mojo a little, I am not creating as much as I used to, maybe I am getting close to that end of year burn out? I did a lot recently, and that is the first digital art I have done in a while, it felt nice to create, but I hate having to force it.

I have not got into the Halloween spirit this year either, the cover photo is from last years Addams Family Shoot. It’s not a really big thing here in Australia anyway, we find if it falls on a weekend then yes we get door knockers, but during the week, not so much. I do buy candy, but these days it is stuff we will eat when we get stuck with the leftovers or no-shows 🙂

Whatever you are doing I hope you have a great week and wonderful All Hallows Eve…
