52 Week Challenge – Week 34 is Purple. So I set myself up in the studio with some new White perspex and took this shot of the purple Gerbera, added a touch of texture.

Til next time, hope you have a great weekend, and happy snapping…

Beautiful shot, Julie. Do you find it better to use your 50mm for shots like this (and those even tighter in) or a “macro lens”? I’m just now beginning to experiment more with macrophotography.

Hi Sheila, I usually use the 35 or 50mm prime.

ok. I have a 30mm f/2.8 prime that is marketed as a “macro lens” and then I have my 50mm f/1.8 prime. Didn’t know which one would be better in your opinion/experience for macro type shots.

I think it comes down to what you are shooting and what you are comfortable with. Mid range macro they are fine, Super close up maybe 90-100mm macro…..and the 30 is it a macro or micro?

The 30 says “macro” on it.

What type of macro do you want to do? Eyes on flies…..flowers whole or in part? As long as it’s sharp, most of us crop our pics too. I don’t do extreme macro, so my 50 is perfect

I double checked and my macro lens is not prime. Anyway, funny you should say eyes on flies because I’m getting ready to post just that thing shortly here, although the focus is not sharp on its wings. Not sure if it was my doing or just the translucent quality of the wings. Found this great article on how to get sharper images. I’m going to try the tips in there next time and see if it helps. .http://digital-photography-school.com/advanced-tips-for-tack-sharp-images/ Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it. 🙂
